Week 14

This week we were working on our FCAT lesson plans. For my lesson plan I printed out an article on waves since Mrs. Hernandez's class was learning about waves. I had them each read a paragraph aloud and I told them that one FCAT strategy was to highlight or underline important things or facts in the article to help you answer the questions. So as they followed along as the students read, I had them highlight important things. Then after we read the article I had them answer 5 questions that went along with the article and I went over the answers and I asked them if high lightening helped them answer the questions.

week 13

This week we are working on our different projects. We also had to write down three different examples of discipline problems that have happened with a sub, on a bus or in your class. Then when Mrs. Powell came, we had to give her some examples and we learned about how we could handle different discipline problems when we become teachers. This week we also watched videos about different teaching techniques.

week 12

This week we did the blooms taxonomy where we rewrote our classmate's objectives using the different blooms taxonomy points. we are also working on different projects due throughout the year. Like the book talk where we chose a book on education to read and write down main points and do a podcast on it. My book that I chose for the book talk project is a book a 7 different keys that can help your child read and understand what they are reading.

Week 10 - Discipline

Before Mrs. Powell had her presentation I really thought it would boring. But it turned out that it was actually pretty good. I liked how she asked us questions like when she asked us who had ever played school when they were younger and frequently played it. I think it really catches our attention when speakers ask questions that we relate to and aren't just random questions that no one knows how to answer. But i think she should of talked more about discipline. It was mainly just about positive and negative discipline and she didn't have us ask her questions about what we should do if this or this happened while we were in a classroom.

Week 9

This week we are doing a brochure on discipline in the classroom and we have to put information on the brochure about how discipline effects the classroom, how to disipline and how negative discipline effects the sutdents.
Last week I did my corapitive learning activity with the 7th grders in Ms. White's. I did it on North American monuments and landmarks. It went really well and it went better than I thought it would.

Bulletin Board Project.

I did my bulletin board project on ancient Egypt for Mrs. Weaver.

Week 8

This week I made my bulletin board for Mrs. Weaver. I liked doing this project a lot because it allowed me to use creativity to make something for another class. For this bulletin board I made it on ancient Egypt. I had this really cute border that had pharaohs on it and it matched the background. Then i bought some pictures of ancient Egypt stuff and it came with a label to go with every picture. Also to go along with the bulletin board they can play a game where the teacher gives a definition and the students run up to the board and tag the picture that belongs with the board.

Week 7

This week in teaching class we are learning about lesson plans and state standards. We are learning about what teacher have to put in their lessons plans like hands on activities and the materials the students will need to do the activity. Then you have to include the state standards in everyday lessons and Fcat stuff. We are going to make our own lessons plans for a grade we want and go to that class and teach the lesson and do the activity with them. I think this will be a fun project.

Week 6

This week in teaching we are making Wiki spaces which is a page you can create to add information on so that people can learn from. My topic is higher education. On my Wiki I wrote the requirements to get accepted into different colleges and universities. Like the University of Florida and Polk State College. It was interesting to see the different standards to get into an university verses a community college.
One thing that happened during this week was that two of my teachers gave a presentation on thier families and their backgrounds. I found it really interesting becuase one teacher made a presentation all his kids and he talked about how he did in school and what he went to college for, ect. Then the other teacher talked about where her parents were from and where she grew up. She told us the story about how she married her husband (which was really cute) and she also talked about how she works at a college and told us what it is like to be in college. I think that every teacher should do this because it lets us know more about our teacher since they are always wanting to know more about us. We can also learn lessons about life from them since they are older than us, like the teacher that talked about being in college.

week 5

This week in teaching we are working in groups on the history of education. Each group has a different topic. We have to create a Wiki account and make a page on our topic. This way everyone can see what your group did and learn from it. we also watched a video about famous people like Micheal Jordan and the creator of Microsoft and how they used to not be such big people with well known names and then they turned into people that everyone knew. Like Micheal Jordan didn't make his high school basketball team but now he is a professional basketball player and has 6 championships. I thought that video was really cool.
One fun thing I did in Spanish class this week was we watched Finding Nemo and we had to make a Venn diagram on Nemo and Dory, but we had to write the answers in spanish. We have a substitute in that class. I think she is a good teacher because she can control the class and she lets you know from the beginning what she doesn't put up with. She isn't one of those subs that doesn't care about the class. She gives us candy for behaving and doing our work which makes the students do their work. She also makes sure that she tells us what is do when and she is always willing to help. I think that substitute teachers should be like that.

4th week

This week in teaching class we watched this really cool video about a teacher that had his students right instructions on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Then he read the instructions and made the sandwiched in front of his class. I thought this was a real cool activity to do in class because it made the students think and learn from their mistakes by not thinking about how many steps there were in making a sandwich and it was fun for them to watch their teacher make the sandwiches. We are also working on teacher interviews. We learned on how to work with audacity, to put the interview on your blog. Doing the teacher interview will be a great way to learn about the teacher and different ways to have your class run if you want to be a teacher. We are also doing this partner project where you have to research the history of teaching. Like the movements the affected the education, and the gender/race, and education in the other countries.

this week in teaching 9/17

This week in teaching class, we learned about multiple intelligence which is different forms of human intelligence that include...musical, kinesthitic, intrapersonal, interpersonal, spacial and more. we took a test to see which ones we were. i got intrapersonal because i am a more quieter person and would rather get things done by myself. this test was interesting to me because i got to learn about myself. we also watched videos on teachers and teaching. one video talked about PowerPoint presentations. this video was really informing, it was funny but it talked about how to make a decent power point. for example like the right color scheme and not using too many bullets. We also had to present articles on controversial articles about teachers and teaching. i liked doing this because i liked learning about the different debates that has to do with teaching students, hearing people's opinions was good too.

teaching controversial-managing hot moments in the classroom

My article was about how teachers should handle things when bad situations occur in the classroom. A "hot moment" occurs in the classroom when a conflict , usually a controversial topic comes up in the classroom. The author of this article says that to take control of the conflict is to get out of your emotions and look for the opportunity to show the students different ways to view the conflict. You should also try to get out of the conflict in the best way you can and start a topic that won't cause much conflict in the classroom. You also have to listen to the student carefully and make sure you fully understand what they are trying to say before you as the teacher open your mouth and say something to the student about what they just said.

Ways that you should help the student think about the topic are...

-tell them to think positively and don't let other students attack each other on the subject

-ask questions like..."why do these people have these views?", "why do people disagree on the subject?".

-tell the students they have to respect everyone's point of view even if they don't agree.

This week in teaching. 9/10

This week in teaching we have to find a teacher that we havent had to interview them on thier teaching. I think this will be a fun project to do and it will help you get the feel of being a teacher. We talked about how teachers have different teaching styles and what works best for them and the students, to different activities they do to get the kids to participate in the class and they call also learn by doing that. This project will be a good project for someone who wants to be a teacher because they can learn from teachers experiences and what they have to say.

My First Week of School.

It's my first week of school. This year I will be a sophmore. I'm not really nervous but I'm not excited either, since I find school really boring. I go to my homeroom class, I've had this teacher before. So nothing new here. Then i have world history which I know I am not going to be good at. But I like the teacher so far. He is pretty nice and has some funny sarcastic jokes. I think to myself "I think I'm going to like this class." The only thing I don't like about this class is my seat right in the center and front of the classroom. Now it's time for english 2. I had this teacher before too. She is nice. I think I'm going to like this class. Next is spanish which is making me quite nervous because i don't know anything about spanish and I think its going to be very hard. So far it is hard. But I think once I get a hand of it, it will be easier....hopefully. Off to Mrs. Booker's health class. I plan on being a nurse when I grow up so this class will come in handy. But it seems like there is a lot to learn in this class. This means a lot of studying. Oh joy. Now I have a teaching/ computer class. I don't plan on being a teacher. But I do love kids so it could be a job for me in the future but I doubt it. Hopefully this will be a fun class. Yes! LUNCH! my favorite part of the day. It's nice being able to talk to your friends without getting in trouble. Science, my least favorite subject but I had the teacher last year so at least I know what to expect and how I can get a good grade in this class. Last I have math. I like math but you really have to pay attention which I have a hard time doing. I'm just glad its finally seventh period.
