week 5

This week in teaching we are working in groups on the history of education. Each group has a different topic. We have to create a Wiki account and make a page on our topic. This way everyone can see what your group did and learn from it. we also watched a video about famous people like Micheal Jordan and the creator of Microsoft and how they used to not be such big people with well known names and then they turned into people that everyone knew. Like Micheal Jordan didn't make his high school basketball team but now he is a professional basketball player and has 6 championships. I thought that video was really cool.
One fun thing I did in Spanish class this week was we watched Finding Nemo and we had to make a Venn diagram on Nemo and Dory, but we had to write the answers in spanish. We have a substitute in that class. I think she is a good teacher because she can control the class and she lets you know from the beginning what she doesn't put up with. She isn't one of those subs that doesn't care about the class. She gives us candy for behaving and doing our work which makes the students do their work. She also makes sure that she tells us what is do when and she is always willing to help. I think that substitute teachers should be like that.

4th week

This week in teaching class we watched this really cool video about a teacher that had his students right instructions on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Then he read the instructions and made the sandwiched in front of his class. I thought this was a real cool activity to do in class because it made the students think and learn from their mistakes by not thinking about how many steps there were in making a sandwich and it was fun for them to watch their teacher make the sandwiches. We are also working on teacher interviews. We learned on how to work with audacity, to put the interview on your blog. Doing the teacher interview will be a great way to learn about the teacher and different ways to have your class run if you want to be a teacher. We are also doing this partner project where you have to research the history of teaching. Like the movements the affected the education, and the gender/race, and education in the other countries.

this week in teaching 9/17

This week in teaching class, we learned about multiple intelligence which is different forms of human intelligence that include...musical, kinesthitic, intrapersonal, interpersonal, spacial and more. we took a test to see which ones we were. i got intrapersonal because i am a more quieter person and would rather get things done by myself. this test was interesting to me because i got to learn about myself. we also watched videos on teachers and teaching. one video talked about PowerPoint presentations. this video was really informing, it was funny but it talked about how to make a decent power point. for example like the right color scheme and not using too many bullets. We also had to present articles on controversial articles about teachers and teaching. i liked doing this because i liked learning about the different debates that has to do with teaching students, hearing people's opinions was good too.

teaching controversial-managing hot moments in the classroom

My article was about how teachers should handle things when bad situations occur in the classroom. A "hot moment" occurs in the classroom when a conflict , usually a controversial topic comes up in the classroom. The author of this article says that to take control of the conflict is to get out of your emotions and look for the opportunity to show the students different ways to view the conflict. You should also try to get out of the conflict in the best way you can and start a topic that won't cause much conflict in the classroom. You also have to listen to the student carefully and make sure you fully understand what they are trying to say before you as the teacher open your mouth and say something to the student about what they just said.

Ways that you should help the student think about the topic are...

-tell them to think positively and don't let other students attack each other on the subject

-ask questions like..."why do these people have these views?", "why do people disagree on the subject?".

-tell the students they have to respect everyone's point of view even if they don't agree.

This week in teaching. 9/10

This week in teaching we have to find a teacher that we havent had to interview them on thier teaching. I think this will be a fun project to do and it will help you get the feel of being a teacher. We talked about how teachers have different teaching styles and what works best for them and the students, to different activities they do to get the kids to participate in the class and they call also learn by doing that. This project will be a good project for someone who wants to be a teacher because they can learn from teachers experiences and what they have to say.

My First Week of School.

It's my first week of school. This year I will be a sophmore. I'm not really nervous but I'm not excited either, since I find school really boring. I go to my homeroom class, I've had this teacher before. So nothing new here. Then i have world history which I know I am not going to be good at. But I like the teacher so far. He is pretty nice and has some funny sarcastic jokes. I think to myself "I think I'm going to like this class." The only thing I don't like about this class is my seat right in the center and front of the classroom. Now it's time for english 2. I had this teacher before too. She is nice. I think I'm going to like this class. Next is spanish which is making me quite nervous because i don't know anything about spanish and I think its going to be very hard. So far it is hard. But I think once I get a hand of it, it will be easier....hopefully. Off to Mrs. Booker's health class. I plan on being a nurse when I grow up so this class will come in handy. But it seems like there is a lot to learn in this class. This means a lot of studying. Oh joy. Now I have a teaching/ computer class. I don't plan on being a teacher. But I do love kids so it could be a job for me in the future but I doubt it. Hopefully this will be a fun class. Yes! LUNCH! my favorite part of the day. It's nice being able to talk to your friends without getting in trouble. Science, my least favorite subject but I had the teacher last year so at least I know what to expect and how I can get a good grade in this class. Last I have math. I like math but you really have to pay attention which I have a hard time doing. I'm just glad its finally seventh period.
